My primary research interests lie in algorithmics and mathematical modeling, particularly in the contexts of social networks and the Web.

I am the head of a research group that includes Marco Bressan, Shahrzad Haddadan, Fabio Vitale. These people, and the activities of the research group, are supported by the following grants of which I am the principal investigator: the ERC Starting Grant DMAP 680153 and the SIR Grant RBSI14Q743. The group is also supported by a Google Focused Research Award (Web Algorithmics for Large-scale Data Analysis), of which I am a co-principal investigator.

I serve as an associate editor for ACM Transactions on Algorithms.

I am serving, or have served, on the program committees of ICML 2018, ESA 2018, KDD 2017 (senior PC member), WWW 2017, WSDM 2017, ICALP 2016, WWW 2015 (poster track co-chair), SODA 2015, WSDM 2014, EWSSN 2013, WWW 2013, PODC 2012, WWW 2012, WWW 2011 and PKDD 2010.

I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science from Sapienza University of Rome. My advisor was Alessandro Panconesi. During my studies I spent many summers as an intern at Yahoo! Research, mentored by Ravi Kumar.

After my Ph.D., I spent two years as a post-doc in the Department of Computer Science at Cornell University, advised by Jon Kleinberg.

I am a frequent visitor of Google Mountain View.
